Role of AI in Healthcare

Artificial intelligence has been playing an important role in manufacturing units and businesses for decades, but only recently has AI forayed into the healthcare. AI has only made baby steps into it while there exists an enormous and multidimensional opportunity for it in healthcare. AI emerges as a game-changer in healthcare industry. The following highlight the use of AI in healthcare:

  • Radiology – AI solutions automate diagnosis and image analysis. They can help automatically read and interpret a scan without human error.
  • Drug Discovery – AI solutions could help in identifying new potential therapies from the huge databases of information available on current medicines. They could accelerate the process of bringing new drugs to market to combat the threat of deadly diseases.
  • Patient Risk Identification – AI solutions can provide real-time support to physicians in identifying risk patients by analyzing their data.

For an AI solution to be successful, it necessitates a huge amount of patient data to optimize and train the performance of the algorithms. In healthcare, however, getting access to these datasets is a constraint. The best way in for AI in healthcare is using hybrid models that support physicians in diagnosis, planning a treatment, and identifying hazards. This can greatly increase the operational efficiency and patient outcomes. With an increasing aging population and growing rates of chronic disease, the need for AI in healthcare is most important.
