Millennial in Business Leadership Roles

As millennials progress in their line of business, it is possible that their leadership roles would evolve rather than dissolve. Leadership will assume a new form with their not being the heroes but just a part of the workforce with a detached, and top-down approach. Their business leadership will adopt a balanced power structure. They are likely to support the workplace with values such as fairness, openness, teamwork, integrity, and empathy.

Most of the millennials believe leadership is to empower others and transform. In spite of the fact that quite a few of them lack confidence in technical expertise and industry experience, they have great confidence in the areas of communication and relationship building. This, according to them, translates into strong leadership skills. Hence, millennials may tend to disrupt traditional -style leadership. Going by their attitude, many leave jobs unlike their predecessors if they believe that the leadership does not meet their needs and expectations.

This generation prefers to develop themselves through a combination of mentorship programs and online training. Millennials as potential leaders prefer organizations that are flat without having to navigate through many layers of management. When it comes to organizational decision making, they value feedback from all employees. As leaders, they are more likely to probe into policies and adjust those that don’t add value than did the previous generations. They would make employees become more engaged in the work they do by seeking and supporting flexibility and work-life balance.
